Every picture on a computer can be classified in one of the following two categories:

Raster Images :

Raster images (also called Bitmaps) are composed of pixels (dots) and have a fixed resolution. Raster images can be created by digital imaging devices such as scanners or digital cameras. They can also be created in paint packages (like Adobe Photoshop) and other programs.

If both the resolution and the number of colors is high, raster images can be an excellent artwork source, showing a huge amount of detail. However there are limitations to their effectiveness. As you zoom into a raster image, you start to see the dots spread and become quite blocky, perhaps even distorted. Also, a detailed raster image can be quite a large file. The larger the raster image, the slower it is to pan, zoom and process it.
The most common formats for raster image files are:
JPG, JPEG, TIFF, PNG, GIF, PCX, BMP, PSD etc.

Vector Files :

A vector file is a drawing stored as a collection of geometric objects, such as lines and curves, which are drawn between specific coordinates. A closer vector file magnification reveals details more accurately and the line edges stay smooth. Vector files are used in graphics, CAD (Computer Aided Design) and other applications where accuracy is important.

The advantages of Vector files are:
  • They can be scaled up or down to any size without loss of detail or jagged edges
  • They can be printed at any resolution without any loss in quality
  • In most cases they require less storage and can be processed faster. Easier to edit individual elements too.
  • They are the only format that can be used for plotters and other CAM devices.

  • We can produce all types of vector file formats including: EPS, AI, CDR, PDF, HPGL, DXF, WMF, ASJ. The vectorized artwork can be sent to you in any one or more of the above formats with no extra cost. We can also supply your vector file as a font (TrueType or PS Type 1) for easier access by many programs.

Please note that evectorize.com produces the best possible quality vector files by using hand Vectorizing methods.
